Back to School: Highlighting New Technologies

As a continuation of our Back to School Series for we are featuring a cool little gadget: the pen scanner. There are a number of different variations of the pen scanner on the market, but essentially all of them allow the ability to scan lines of text into your computer. Most pen scanners are wireless, scan lines of text into memory and can download to PC’s through a USB connection.

The applications for pen scanners are almost endless. For students taking notes from text becomes as easy as sliding the scanner across a phrase or sentence and then downloading it to a computer. Students can easily make study guides or organize reference material for writing a paper. Aside from students, anyone who is interested in extracting and organizing information from text can benefit.
There are a number of different pen scanners on the market, and a great source of information can be found at Cnet.com. One of Cnet.com’s featured pen scanners is the QuikLink Pen which ranges in price from $109-$155 and can be found at the retailers listed below. Additional information can be found at Gizmodo.com, that features the IRISPen 6, which cost around $130.
