Happy Hour - Better than Sliced Bread

By: Chris Brubaker

There are three things in life you can be sure of death, taxes, and waiting in line at an amusement park. In today’s world of self check out, drive thru, and instant credit card payments people just don’t like waiting. When attending a theme park wait times for rides can get upwards of 45 minutes to an hour, for a ride that usually lasts less than 5 minutes. Parks have tried everything from building more rides to VIP passes (pay more for a ticket to skip the lines), while those do remedy some of the congestion long lines remain. One company located in the UK thinks they have a solution that satisfies park goers along with park owners.

CellQ, by Monkwood Technologies is a product designed specifically for the entertainment industry. The company has created a way for consumers to essentially skip long lines and enjoy their day. When a park goer see’s a long line they can use their cell phone to text into the ride’s specific number and be placed in a virtual queue, eliminating the need to stand in line for 30 to 40 minutes. When it’s your turn on the ride, a text message is sent to your phone, allowing you to proceed straight to the ride and hop on board.

Currently the system is being pilot tested by a theme park in the UK (Flamingo Land), as the system proves itself expect to see more parks implementing CellQ in the future.
