Happy Hour: Holidays are over, now what

By: Chris Brubaker

Happy Hour

Whew, that was a fun, busy holiday; spending time with friends and family, not having to go to work and just plain relaxing. Best part is we all got some brand new “stuff”…the holidays here in the US have become synonymous with gift giving and all out spending. Not many people stop and think about all the “stuff” they get, but Annie Leonard did, creating a documentary of sorts to explain the process of consumerism.

Here’s a little tid bit of information from the video; of everything that is purchased (food, toys, electronics) only 1% is still around 6 months after it was bought, that means 99% of things bought are thrown away within 6 months….yeah, I thought that was crazy too.

While I’m not saying everyone should stop buying stuff and change their lifestyle, it is definitely food for thought. A clip of the movie can be seen below and to view the movie in its entirety visit StoryofStuff.com.
